The Next Pokemon Go Community Day is June 16

This month's event features Rock and Ground Type Pokemon Larvitar.

It’s that time again: Pokemon Go’s monthly Community Day event is almost here.

On June 16, the Ground and Rock Type Pokemon Larvitar will appear more frequently in the game from 2 p.m. ET to 5 p.m. ET. Larvitar has two evolutions, Pupitar and Tyranitar, so your kids will probably need to capture a ton of these creatures to ensure they have all three.

If players successfully evolve a Pupitar into a Tyranitar during this event, the Tyranitar will learn an exclusive battle move, Smack Down, which can only be unlocked during this event.

As usual, this Community Day celebration comes with extra bonuses for players. Pokemon Go players, young and old, will earn three times the normal amount of experience points when they capture Pokemon during this event. Pokemon Lures will also last for three hours during this event, rather than 30 minutes. These valuable items let players lure Pokemon to a nearby PokeStop so they can capture more critters without moving around.

Finally, don’t let your kids forget that Community Day events are a great time to hunt for the extra rare Shiny version of the featured Pokemon. We don’t have official confirmation that Shiny Larvitar will make an appearance this weekend, but if past events are anything to go by, the chances are really good.

Happy hunting!
