There are more than 20 character figures available to collect in Series 1.
Funko Games, the company behind tabletop games like Funkoverse and Disney Kingdomania, recently released its latest “expandable game system” called Star Wars Rivals. An expandable game system allows people to purchase multiple products over time and combine them to create a custom gameplay experience.
Star Wars Rivals is for two players with a recommended age of 7+. The game features characters from across the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars Rivals products are available in three packages: A Premier Set, Light Side Character Booster Packs, and Dark Side Character Booster Packs. The Premier Set contains two “light side” characters (Commander Cody and Luke Skywalker) and two “dark side” characters (Asaji Ventress and Darth Vader), while the booster packs each contain one additional character representing either the light or dark side.
The Premier Set contains everything required for the two-player game. If players don’t purchase the Premier Set and only purchase booster packs, they’ll need to purchase at least one Light Side Character Booster Pack and one Dark Side Character Booster Pack to play the game.
During each two-player game, one player will represent the light side, while the other will represent the dark side. Each round begins with players taking turns to move their characters to different Location Cards in the center of the gameplay area. Next, players will roll a die to determine which Locations will “score” during the round. Finally, each player will play one Action Card from their hand, with these Action Cards being themed after the player’s characters.
Action Cards will allow players to affect the “Influence” level of different characters (including their own). At the end of a round, the overall Influence level at each of the “scoring” Location Cards is determined, and the player (light side or dark side) with the greatest influence at each of these locations will collect the Location Card(s) for their score pile. The game ends when all of the Location Cards have been collected, and the player who has earned the most points wins.
Each game of Star Wars Rivals has an estimated play time of 20 minutes.
The Star Wars Rivals Premier Set is now available for $19.99. Series 1 of the Light Side and Dark Side Character Booster Packs are also available for $4.99 each. As of this writing, there are more than 20 figures to collect in the Series 1 Booster Packs, including special “Hologram” versions of four characters for each side. For instance, Light Side Character Booster Packs may contain Hologram Princess Leia Organa or Hologram Yoda, while Dark Side Character Booster Packs may contain Hologram Count Dooku or Hologram Darth Vader.
