Players can participate in puzzle matches across multiple gameplay modes.

Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop is now available on Apple Arcade, Apple’s game subscription service that gives subscribers unlimited access to a curated selection of games for a single monthly price.

Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop is the latest game in the Puyo Puyo franchise, which began with the original Puyo Puyo on PC in 1991 in Japan.

In Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, players can participate in puzzle matches across multiple gameplay modes, including a single-player Adventure (story) mode, a Challenge mode, a Solo mode (this allows players to compete against computer-controlled opponents), and a local multiplayer mode (for multiple players in the same room).

Similar to a game of Tetris, in each match of Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, players are given a tall, rectangular playing board where they can make matches with colorful symbols called Puyos. Each time players make four or more Puyos of the same color touch in some way (horizontally or vertically), they’re cleared from the screen. Players are encouraged to arrange Puyos in such a way as to create chain reactions when they’re cleared from the screen.

As players create large matches and chain reactions, they’ll send clear “Garbage” Puyos onto their opponent’s board. If the opponent is playing well, these Garbage Puyos may also appear on the player’s own board. Garbage Puyos can only be cleared by making a match with Puyos that are touching them. The match ends when one player allows their board to fill to the top of the screen so no more Puyos can appear.

Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop offers multiple “Main” storylines for players to complete in the game’s Adventure mode, with each one focusing on a different character from the franchise, such as Amitie or Arle. In addition, players can collect “Side Story Keys” that allow them to unlock separate “Side” storylines starring additional characters, such as Raffina, Klug, and Feli.

Players will collect a points currency as they play the game, which they can spend on a variety of customization options for their gameplay experience. This includes items like new background music tracks, new designs for the game’s Puyos, and more.

Since Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop is an Apple Arcade game, it doesn’t feature advertisements or in-game purchases. This means players can’t spend real money to unlock additional in-game content. They can only unlock content by continuing to play the game.

Finally, in addition to supporting touch screen controls, Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop supports compatible gaming controllers.

Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop is now available on Apple Arcade, and can be played on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV devices. The game has an age rating of 4+.
