This feature is rolling out to trainers based on their in-game level.
Earlier this year, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, announced that players of the free-to-play mobile game would soon be able to invite their friends to participate in Raids, regardless of where those friends were located.
Now, the feature has started rolling out!
The rollout began Wednesday for players who have reached Level 40 (the maximum level) in Pokemon Go. This was eventually lowered to Level 32, which is the current requirement as of this writing.
On Twitter, Niantic commented on this limitation:
“The ability to invite friends to raids is now live for Trainers Level 32 and up! We will remain at this level of rollout for now, to monitor the feature for stability. Stay tuned for updates in the coming days as we continue making this feature available to more Trainers!”
In addition, the Niantic Support Twitter account acknowledged that there is currently an issue with this feature that you should be aware of:
“Trainers, if you’re invited to a Raid Battle and your team faints, you will appear back on the map and not in the raid lobby. You can return by tapping on raid invite again from the nearby menu.”
According to the game’s Known Issues page, this problem is being investigated by the developer, but we don’t know exactly when it will be fixed.
