Pokemon Go Will Test XP and Daily Free Box Changes in November

A limited number of players will be included in each test.

Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, announced it will conduct two new tests that will affect the amount of experience points certain players receive for completing in-game tasks and the items they’ll see in the game’s Daily Free Box in the item store.

These tests will kick off on November 9, 2020.

According to Niantic, during the “XP-rebalancing test,” “select Trainers in Australia and New Zealand…will experience adjustments to the amount of XP they earn from activities such as catching Pokémon, hatching Eggs, evolving Pokémon, and more.” This “XP-rebalancing test” will run until November 16, 2020.

The other test will allow some players around the world to find different items in the Daily Free Box that is available each day in the in-game item shop. Niantic said the items these players receive “might be those most relevant to each Trainer’s Pokémon GO experience!”

Niantic is encouraging players in the tests to share their feedback with the Pokemon Go and Niantic Support Twitter accounts.

In a news post, the developer said:

“Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to providing this update to all Trainers once testing is complete.”

It’s worth pointing out that even though Niantic currently plans to roll these feature changes out to all players in the future, there’s no guarantee it actually will. The developer previously conducted tests related to the way players earn PokeCoins in Pokemon Go, but due to “Trainer feedback and collected data,” those tests were ended in late October 2020.

We’ll make sure to bring you more details about these new XP and Daily Free Box tests as we learn more.
