Update (06/17/2020): The Niantic Support Twitter account announced that this update has been pushed to a later date, but a new date wasn’t given.
Original Story:
Trainers, at the beginning of August 2020, an update to Pokemon Go will remove support for 32-bit Android devices, meaning players with those devices will no longer be able to play the game.
If you have a 64-bit Android device, or an iOS device (like an iPhone), you won’t be affected by this change and don’t need to do anything to continue playing the game.
In a news post, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, provided a few examples of the devices that will be affected by this update:
- “Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, J3
- Sony Xperia Z2, Z3
- Motorola Moto G (1st generation)
- Many Android devices released before 2015″

In its news post, Niantic provided more information about why this change is being made:
“By removing support for 32-bit Android devices, we will be able to streamline our development process and focus resources on supporting newer operating systems and technologies.”
If you will be affected by this change and plan to upgrade to a newer Android or iOS device in order to continue playing Pokemon Go, make sure you know the login details for the account you use to play the game so that you can access your account on your new device!
