Players can purchase a ticket to experience a new Special Research story event wherever they are in the world.
Brace yourselves, trainers — a major event is launching soon in Pokemon Go, and we’re here with all of the details you need to know to prepare.
First and foremost, a regular limited time event will take place from November 1 at 1 p.m. PT until November 4 at 1 p.m. PT, which will see Regirock, Regice, and Registeel appear in Tier 5 Raids. Geodude, Magnemite, Swinub, Aron, and Spheal will also appear more frequently in the wild during this time, and you’ll have the chance to encounter Shiny Skarmory, Shiny Regirock, Shiny Regice, and Shiny Registeel as you play.
Finally, during this short event, Aeroedactyl, Shuckle, Sneasel, Skarmory, Snorunt, and Beldum will hatch more frequently from Eggs. Incubators will also hatch Eggs after walking half of the normal required distance, so long as the Eggs are placed into an Incubator during this event window.
While this event is fun on its own, on November 2, things get really exciting. On that day, you’ll have the chance to participate in a Special Research story event called A Colossal Discovery, which will ask you to complete a variety of in-game tasks to earn an encounter with Regigigas, a Legendary Pokemon from Gen IV of the Pokemon universe.
There’s a huge catch here, though. You’ll need to purchase a ticket to access this event. The ticket will be available in the in-game item shop for $7.99, and you won’t be able to purchase it with the equivalent amount of PokeCoins.
The Special Research event itself will be active from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time on November 2, but if you fail to complete the Special Research within that time frame, you can still complete it after the event has ended. However, in a blog post, Pokemon Go’s developer, Niantic, said players should really try to complete the Research during the actual event window, which indicates to us that it will likely be harder to complete after the event has ended.
If you’re not interested in purchasing a ticket, you’ll still have the chance to encounter Regigigas later on when it comes to EX Raids sometime in November.
A few things to keep in mind: If you purchase a ticket to participate in this Special Research event, you’ll receive the “A Colossal Discovery” medal on your profile, and you’ll be able to earn up to 10 additional Raid Passes during the event period on November 2 when you visit Pokemon Gyms. You can only hold one Raid Pass at a time, so you’ll need to participate in a Raid and then visit a Gym to claim your next Raid Pass, and then repeat this process until you’ve collected all 10. Finally, you can receive a Unova Stone, a Sinnoh Stone, and an exclusive pose for your in-game avatar by completing these Special Research tasks.
