Pokemon Go May 18 Spotlight Hour: Everything You Need to Know

Monday, May 17th, 2021 7:57 am

Watch out for Shiny Alolan Rattata!

Trainers, the next Spotlight Hour event is happening soon in Pokemon Go. On May 18 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time, Alolan Rattata will appear more frequently than normal in the wild, and you’ll receive two times the normal number of experience points when evolving Pokemon.

Alolan Rattata is a Dark- and Normal-type Pokemon with a single evolution. In Pokemon Go, you evolve Alolan Rattata into Alolan Raticate using 25 Rattata Candy.

Alolan Rattata can be Shiny in Pokemon Go. Shiny Alolan Rattata is maroon, rather than black.

To make the most of this week’s event, remember that you can activate an Incense to attract wild Pokemon to your location for a limited time. This will give you more Rattata to capture and more chances to potentially find a Shiny one. Plus, if you have lots of extra Rattata Candy on hand, you may want to evolve some of the Rattata you capture during this Spotlight Hour in order to earn some bonus experience points.

Finally, if you’ve yet to complete Part 2 of the “All-in-One #151” Masterwork Research tasks, which asks you to catch 30 Pokemon of each “Type” in Pokemon Go, keep in mind that this week’s Spotlight Hour will give you the chance to quickly complete the “Catch 30 Dark-type Pokemon” task.

Following this week’s event, there’s still one more Spotlight Hour to look forward to in May 2021. Marill will be the featured Pokemon during the Spotlight Hour event on May 25.
