Pokemon Go: How to Evolve Burmy

Friday, September 18th, 2020 8:48 am

This pocket monster has a unique evolutionary line.

In Pokemon Go, there are a number of Pokemon that evolve in unique ways (think Eevee and its multiple possible evolutions). One of these unique Pokemon is Burmy, a Bug-type Pokemon from Generation IV of the Pokemon universe.

Similar to a Pokemon like Combee, Burmy’s evolution is dependent on the Pokemon’s gender. If Burmy is male, it can only be evolved into Mothim, but if Burmy is female, it can only be evolved into Wormadam.

Burmy has three different “cloak” possibilities (Plant, Sandy, and Trash), and this determines Wormadam’s appearance. Specifically, Wormadam will match the color of Burmy’s cloak.

As an example, here’s what Plant Cloak Burmy and Plant Cloak Wormadam look like in Pokemon Go. If you want to see pictures of Sandy Cloak and Trash Cloak Wormadam, check out Bulbapedia.

Finally, Mothim only has a single appearance, which isn’t impacted by Burmy’s cloak.

Even though Burmy has gender-based evolution, you don’t need any special items to actually evolve this Pokemon. You simply need to spend 50 Burmy Candy each time you want to evolve this Pokemon into Wormadam or Mothim.
