Pokemon Go February 2 Spotlight Hour: Watch Out for Shiny Ekans

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 6:25 am

Now's the time to evolve Pokemon!

Trainers, the next Spotlight Hour event in Pokemon Go will take place on February 2 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time.

During this event, Ekans will appear more frequently than normal in the wild, and you’ll receive twice the normal number of experience points when evolving Pokemon. This experience point bonus will apply to every Pokemon you evolve during Spotlight Hour, and not just Ekans.

Ekans is a Poison-type Pokemon from the first Generation of the Pokemon universe. In Pokemon Go, you can evolve Ekans into Arbok using 50 Ekans Candy.

Even if you already have Ekans and Arbok in your collection, there’s still a good reason to play during this event: Ekans can be Shiny. While you aren’t guaranteed to encounter Shiny Ekans during this Spotlight Hour event, you will be able to check lots of Ekans in a short amount of time, so your chances of finding one will technically be increased.

Following this week’s Spotlight Hour, there are three more of these events scheduled to take place in February. Here’s the breakdown:

  • February 9 – Miltank, 2x Stardust for catching Pokemon
  • February 16 – Luvdisc, 2x experience points for catching Pokemon
  • February 23 – Pikachu, 2x Pokemon Candy when catching Pokemon
