Disney Animated Tabletop Game Challenges Groups to Design Classic Disney Films

Players must work together to finish films as Disney villains try to stop their plans.

In 2023, Funko Games, the company behind tabletop games like Star Wars Rivals and Indiana Jones: Sands of Adventure, released Disney Animated, a cooperative tabletop game that challenges players to work together to complete Disney films before time runs out.

Disney Animated is for 2-4 players with a recommended age of 10+. The game features five classic Disney films: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, Fantasia, and 101 Dalmatians. Each player will select a different film to work on, and they’ll need to work together with the other players to ensure all of the group’s selected films are finished before the deadline on the Studio Board is reached.

Throughout the game, the main villain from each selected film (like Jafar from Aladdin and The Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) will work against players in an attempt to prevent their films from being finished because they know what will happen to them at the end of each film’s plot.

Before the game begins, players will be able to determine the game’s difficulty level (based on the number of players) to create an experience that’s as challenging (or not) as they’d like it to be.

Disney Animated is played across a series of rounds, with each round having two phases. During the first phase, players will perform actions related to five different concepts associated with Disney’s animated film production process: Animation, Background, Ink & Paint, Sound, and Magic.

During the second phase, the group will move closer to their deadline and must complete actions associated with the Disney villains.

If players can complete all of the group’s selected films before they reach the deadline, they’ll win the game. If even a single film remains incomplete once the deadline is reached, the group will lose.

Each game of Disney Animated has an expected play time of 20 minutes per player, but families should expect to spend more time on their first playthrough due to the game’s lengthy setup process (each film has a number of unique pieces assigned to it that will need to be separated from the rest).

Disney Animated is now available for a recommended price of $34.99.
