Spider-Man swings into action in a new teen-friendly release on PlayStation 4.
Fall is upon us, and with the change of seasons comes a slew of major video game releases. Games like the Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit and Marvel’s Spider-Man are great for kids and teens (respectively), but a few other titles should only be played by adults when the kiddos aren’t around.

Appropriate for: Teens who are comfortable with fast-paced action
Marvel’s Spider-Man challenges players save New York City from villains by becoming the popular crime-fighting superhero. Players will encounter famous characters from the Spider-Man universe, like Electro and Scorpion. They’ll also be able to web-swing around a digital version of New York City. While Spider-Man is a popular character with kiddos, Marvel’s Spider-Man is rated T for Teen by the ESRB, and has content descriptors for “Blood,” “Drug Reference,” “Language,” and “Violence,” so it may not be appropriate for younger players.

Appropriate for: Kids who can follow step-by-step instructions
The Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit will let kids hit the road, air, and sea while using cardboard controllers they build themselves. The kit allows users to build a steering wheel, a plane’s flight stick, a submarine control unit, a pedal, and two keys — all out of cardboard — and then use those controllers to race, battle in-game vehicles, and play other games. Users can switch between vehicles by moving their cardboard key from one vehicle controller to another. The other key lets a second player jump in for some two-player fun.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the latest installment in the modern Tomb Raider series, which began with the release of Tomb Raider in 2013. The game follows archaeologist Lara Croft on her quest to prevent a Maya apocalypse. Along the way, players will be able to kill virtual enemies using a variety of weapons, as well as solve puzzles and avoid traps as they explore in-game environments. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is rated M for Mature by the ESRB, with content descriptors for “Blood and Gore,” “Intense Violence,” and “Strong Language.”

Life is Strange 2 is a mature, story-driven game that follows brothers named Sean (16) and Daniel (9) who are on the run from the police. Players take control of Sean, who will need to take care of Daniel as the pair faces challenges on their quest to make it to their family’s home town in Mexico. As users play, they can make decisions that impact the rest of the game. Only the first of the game’s five episodes is being released on September 27; the other four episodes will be released in the future. Life is Strange 2 is rated M for Mature by the ESRB, with content descriptors for “Violence,” “Blood,” “Sexual Themes,” “Drug Reference,” and “Strong Language.”
