It was a great plan... with flawed execution.

Fortnite: Battle Royale is all about survival. Players are challenged to eliminate other users with the goal of being the last one standing in each match. But sometimes, the traditional rules go out the window when a player spots someone in need.

That’s what happened when YouTube video creator and Fortnite player Muselk attempted to rescue a fellow player, named Chappadoodle, who had fallen off of a cliff at the edge of the game’s map, and was now trapped. In a video replay shared by the Fortnite Twitter account (via Game Informer), we can see Muselk build a makeshift spiral staircase in an attempt to reach Chappadoodle, who he assumed had run out of building materials, and therefore couldn’t build an escape route themselves.

In reality, Chappadoodle had fallen outside of the game’s building limits, which meant that Muselk’s staircase couldn’t reach the beach where Chappadoodle was stranded because the game wouldn’t let him build any farther down. Muselk concocted a backup plan to rescue his fellow player using one of the game’s new off-road golf karts.

In a hilarious turn of events, Muselk ended up killing Chappadoodle rather than rescuing them.

Chappadoodle shared their side of the story on Reddit, revealing how they became trapped in the first place:

During a game of Fortnite I was attempting to secure high ground during a fight, although before I could secure my desired location my stairs were shot out resulting in me falling off the map. Fortunately I managed to slide most of the distance thus surviving, unfortunately I’d found myself on a ledge outside of the maps build limit, meaning I was trapped.

Moments like these show off Fortnite’s unpredictability and potential for humor, and help explain why the game is so popular with millions of players. Parents, take this opportunity to encourage your kids to go out on a limb to help their fellow players, too. They just may create a funny memory for themselves in the process.
