Kiddos can learn about different cultures in this free-to-start mobile game.

Thomas & Friends: Adventures is an educational children’s game on iOS and Android devices that lets players join Thomas the Tank Engine on his trip around the world to learn about different cultures.

The game lets players travel to China, India, Australia, Tanzania, and Sodor (where the Thomas the Tank Engine series is set), but only the China chapter is available to play for free. The other location chapters can be purchased for $4.99 each, or in a bundle for $14.99. Players can also purchase items, like different train engines, individually or in groups, with prices starting at $0.99.

Each chapter lets kids play on a train set that’s themed after the current location. As Thomas travels along the track, he’ll make stops at activity points, which let players watch cutscenes, build additional train sets, and more. For instance, at one stop, players may need to drag the correct pieces of a train set onto a blueprint to successfully complete the stage.

There is also a simple racing mini-game that asks littles to tap and hold on a green button to increase Thomas’ speed, and let go when Thomas starts going too fast (a colorful meter on the screen gives players the correct speed to aim for).

As players complete activities, they’ll collect track pieces, decorations, and new engines, which they can use to build tracks. Kids can replay activities to collect additional prizes.

Thomas & Friends: Adventures is available to download for free on iOS and Android devices. The game is rated E for Everyone.
