Roblox’s Experience Guidelines Allow Parents to Control the Content Their Kids Can Engage With

Experiences will receive one of three age ratings.

Roblox introduced new “Experience Guidelines” and expanded its parental control features to give parents more infromation about the content on its platform, and more ways to control their children’s access to that content.

The Experience Guidelines feature will allow each Roblox experience to receive an age rating, similar to how traditional video games are rated by the ESRB in North America. The creator of each experience on Roblox will be able to complete a “short questionnaire” related to the content in their experience to generate this age rating.

Roblox experiences will receive one of three age ratings: “All Ages,” “9+,” or “13+.” Each rating will be associated with certain “descriptors” related to the kinds of content that may be found in experiences that receive that rating.

Here’s the breakdown of each rating, straight from Roblox:

  • “13+ (suitable for ages 13 and up): Content is generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain frequent moderate violence and/or light realistic blood.
  • 9+ (suitable for ages 9 and up): Content is generally suitable for ages 9 and up. May contain frequent mild violence and/or heavy unrealistic blood.
  • All Ages (suitable for everyone): Content is generally suitable for all ages. May contain infrequent mild violence and/or light unrealistic blood.”

These age ratings will allow parents to make more informed decisions about the experiences they allow their children to interact with on the Roblox platform. In addition, parents can now use Roblox’s parental controls features to block their children’s access to experiences based on their age ratings.
