If you've played Let's Go, Pikachu or Eevee, you'll receive a Pokemon that can Gigantamax for free.
When Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield launch on Switch on November 15, players will be introduced to lots of new features that haven’t been seen in previous Pokemon role-playing games. This includes the Gigantamax phenomenon, a feature that causes a Pokemon to change in size and appearance during a Pokemon battle, and also allows them to use a special G-Max Move.
Only certain kinds of Pokemon will be able to undergo the Gigantamax transformation, and even then, not all members of each particular species will actually have the ability. For example, even though it’s possible for a Pokemon like Drednaw to Gigantamax, not all individual Drednaw will be able to.
In a new trailer for Pokemon Sword and Shield, we learned about five additional Pokemon that will be able to undergo the Gigantamax transformation: Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee, Meowth, and Butterfree.
If you have “play records” on your Switch from Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu (that is, if you played that game on your Switch), you’ll receive a free Pikachu in Pokemon Sword and Shield that will be able to Gigantamax. Similarly, if you have play records from Let’s Go, Eevee on your device, you’ll receive a free Eevee that can Gigantamax.
Finally, all players will have the chance to receive a free Meowth with the Gigantamax ability as an “early-purchase bonus.” This Meowth will be available as a Mystery Gift that you can download over the internet within Sword and Shield from November 15, 2019 to January 15, 2020.
