Earlier this year, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo revealed Pokemon Legends: Arceus, an action role-playing game (RPG) that takes place in the distant past in the Sinnoh region of the Pokemon universe (where Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl were set).

Instead of challenging players to defeat Pokemon trainers and win gym badges (like many Pokemon RPGs do), Pokemon Legends: Arceus will ask players to create the Sinnoh region’s first Pokedex by exploring the wilderness and catching wild pocket monsters.

Players will be able to choose one of three starting Pokemon to be their partner on this journey: Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott. These pocket monsters aren’t typically found in the Sinnoh region, but they’ve been brought there by a Pokemon Professor that will help players on their journey.

When Pokemon Legends: Arceus was first announced, we only knew the game would be released in “early 2022.” Now, the game has an official release date: January 28, 2022.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be released physically and digitally for Nintendo Switch for $59.99. It’s available to pre-order now.
