Trade with friends who are farther away!

Trainers, the first Pokemon Go Community Day in 2021 is right around the corner! On January 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, Machop will appear more frequently than normal in the wild.

While we’ve already brought you a preview of this exciting event, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, recently revealed one more bonus that will be in effect this weekend: increased trading distance!

From January 15 at 11 a.m. PT until January 18 at 11 a.m. PT, you’ll be able to trade Pokemon across distances of up to 40 km (around 24.85 miles). Typically, you need to be within 100 meters of another player in order to trade Pokemon, so this temporary increase will open up many more trading possibilities for trainers this weekend!

Also keep in mind that you can only complete one Special Trade per day. These “Special Trades” are those that include a Legendary, Purified, or Shiny Pokemon, or any Pokemon that hasn’t been registered in the recipient’s Pokedex. This limit means you won’t be able to trade a ton of special Pokemon this weekend, but, you will be able to trade up to four special Pokemon if you play each day.

As of right now, the next time we’ll see this increased trading distance in Pokemon Go is during the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event on February 20. We’ll make sure to let you know if Niantic announces another trading event between now and then.
