Pokemon Go Tour Kanto Contest: Everything You Need to Know

The winners will have their avatars turned into interactive characters.

In February 2021, the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event will be held in Pokemon Go, giving trainers the opportunity to encounter Pokemon from the Kanto region of the Pokemon universe in a variety of ways. (Learn more about this partially ticketed event in our previous coverage.)

Ahead of this event, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, has launched a contest on Twitter that will give trainers the chance to have their in-game avatars added to the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event as interactive characters.

Specifically, during the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event, players will see trainers on the in-game map, and they’ll be able to battle against them (this will apply to all players — even those who haven’t purchased a Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto ticket). These trainers will be the in-game avatars of the players who win this contest.

The contest is open from now until January 11 at 11:59 p.m. PT. To enter, players need to share a screenshot of their trainer profile on Twitter, and their tweet needs to include the hashtag #PokemonGoTourContest. The tweet must also include a list of the three Pokemon the trainer would have on their team. Players can only choose Pokemon from the Kanto region of the Pokemon universe, with the exception of Ditto, Legendary, and Mythical Pokemon.

In a news post, Niantic said it will judge the entries based on three criteria: “creativity of avatar outfit,” “general theme,” and “Pokémon team composition.” This means the winners won’t be selected at random, so you should use your imagination to come up with the best avatar outfit and team that you can before entering!
