The event's Special Research will only be available to players who purchase a ticket for the event.

As spotted by PokeMiners, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, has released more information about the Pokemon Go Tour: Johto event that’s taking place in Pokemon Go on February 26, 2022.

Pokemon Go Tour: Johto is a major in-game event inspired by the Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver video games. It will offer some features for all players for free, but many of the event’s features and bonuses will only be available to players who purchase an event ticket that costs $11.99. You can learn more about the Pokemon Go Tour: Johto event in our previous coverage.

While Niantic has already shared many details about the Pokemon Go Tour: Johto event, now the developer has revealed new information about the Special Research storyline that players will receive if they purchase the Pokemon Go Tour: Johto event ticket.

Players who purchase a Pokemon Go Tour: Johto ticket will be required to choose between three Pokemon – Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile – who will accompany them in the game as they complete the event’s Special Research. These are the three starting Pokemon players could choose from in Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver.

On the Pokemon Go website, Niantic listed the types of tasks this Special Research will ask players to complete, as well as some of the prizes they’ll receive:

“Special Research tasks will include the following challenges.

  • Catching different species of Pokémon
  • Evolving Pokémon
  • Earning Stardust
  • Taking GO Snapshots
  • Defeating Team GO Rocket Grunts

Trainers will be able to earn the following rewards by completing Special Research tasks.

  • Items for evolving Pokémon
  • Rocket Radar pieces
  • An encounter with Shiny Gyarados
  • An encounter with Celebi

If you catch Celebi during the event, it will know the attack Magical Leaf!”

Tickets for the Pokemon Go Tour: Johto event are now available to purchase in Pokemon Go for $11.99. If players purchase this event ticket before February 10, 2022, they’ll receive access to February’s Season of Heritage Timed Research, which will challenge them to catch a required number of Pokemon to earn in-game rewards, including a Noibat Hat for their avatar.
