Pokemon Go March Community Day: Shiny Treecko May Appear in the Wild

Monday, February 25th, 2019 8:01 am

This monthly event has a new start time.

The next Pokemon Go Community Day will take place on March 23, and it comes with a major change from all previous events. Instead of taking place at different times around the world based on time zones (for instance, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pacific or 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern), March’s Community Day will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. wherever players live.

The March Community Day event will allow players to encounter Treecko far more often than normal in the wild. This Grass-type Pokemon is one of the three starting creatures (along with Mudkip and Torchic) players could choose from in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, which were released on Game Boy Advance in 2003 in North America.

Treecko has two evolutions — Grovyle and Sceptile. In Pokemon Go, players can evolve Treecko into Grovyle using 25 Treecko Candy, and Grovyle into Sceptile using 100 Treecko candy. An exclusive battle move will be up for grabs on Community Day, but we don’t know what it is just yet. Based on past events, we can guess that the move will be earned whenever players evolve Grovyle into Sceptile during this event period.

In addition, Lure Modules will last for three hours when activated during the three-hour Community Day window, rather than the standard 30 minutes. Eggs will also hatch after walking just a fourth of the normal required distance if they’re placed in an Incubator during this event.

Finally, keep in mind that Shiny Treecko will likely show up in the wild during this event. Even if you’ve already collected Treecko, Grovyle, and Sceptile on your account, hunting down a new Shiny is an exciting reason to get out and play on March 23.
