Pokemon Go Johto Throwback Challenge: Everything You Need to Know

Friday, May 8th, 2020 2:05 pm

The free-to-play mobile game is celebrating the Johto region of the Pokemon universe.

Trainers, the second week of Pokemon Go’s lengthy Throwback Challenge event is here, and it focuses on the Johto region of the Pokemon universe (where Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal were set).

From May 8 at 1 p.m. local time until May 15 at 1 p.m. local time, Pokemon from the Johto region will appear more frequently in the wild and in Raids. You’ll also have the chance to encounter Shiny Dunsparce!

In addition, Chinchou, Yanma, Girafarig, Pineco, Dunsparce, Gligar, Shuckle, Skarmory, and Phanpy will have the chance to hatch from 7 km Eggs that are collected during this event window.

Elsewhere, Pikachu wearing Umbreon hats will be available to encounter in the wild during this event. You’ll also be able to collect themed Field Research tasks by visiting PokeStops, and these tasks may reward you with encounters with Pokemon from the Johto region.

Throughout this event, you’ll earn two times the normal amount of Stardust when you capture Pokemon and compete in Raids.

Finally, this event added a new series of Timed Research tasks to the game. There are nine sets of tasks to complete in the “Throwback Challenge: Johto” series, and they’ll only be available to complete until May 15 at 1 p.m. local time. That means if you don’t finish them by then, they’ll disappear!

Completing these tasks will reward you with a lot of Pokemon encounters, Berries, and Stardust. Plus, when you finish the final task, you’ll receive an encounter with a Ho-oh that knows the battle move Earthquake.

We’ve created a full guide breaking down what each of the Johto Timed Research tasks asks you to do. Head over there to check it out!
