Pokemon Go Go Beyond Update: Level Cap Increase, Seasons, and More

Some seriously major changes are coming to the free-to-play mobile game.

Trainers, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, is preparing to send 2020 out with a bang. At the end of November, Pokemon Go will receive one its biggest updates ever — an update so big it actually has a name: Go Beyond.

The Go Beyond update will be released the week of November 30, 2020. It will include a variety of major changes, which we’ll go over briefly here, and then dive into individually in separate posts here on SuperParent. Click the links in each section below to learn more about these changes and new features!

Level Cap Increase

The Go Beyond update will increase the maximum player level from 40 to 50. While reaching Level 40 only requires players to earn the necessary number of experience points, reaching Levels 41-50 will require you to collect experience points and complete specific tasks.

Plus, this update will increase the number of experience points players earn for completing in-game actions.

Players who reach Level 40 before December 31 at 11:59 p.m. local time will be eligible to receive exclusive rewards, such as a Legacy 40 Medal and access to Timed Research tasks that will reward them with an exclusive Gyarados Hat for their avatar.

A new Seasons system will cause Pokemon Go to be updated in various ways every three months, in keeping with the changing of the seasons in the real world. In each Season, different Mega-Evolved Pokemon will appear in Raids, different Pokemon will appear more often in the wild, and so on.

The first Season, which is called the “Season of Celebration,” will kick off on December 1, 2020 at 8 a.m. local time.

With the introduction of in-game Seasons, the length of Go Battle League seasons will be extended to match. That is, each Go Battle League season will run alongside the game’s current Season, changing out every three months. This will also see the Go Battle League expanded from 10 ranks to 24 ranks, with the top four ranks (Ranks 21-24) corresponding to new in-game titles and badges.

The Introduction of Pokemon From the Kalos Region

On December 2, 2020, a number of Pokemon from the Kalos region of the Pokemon universe will make their Pokemon Go debut. Plus, a special in-game event will also begin on December 2, which will cause Pokemon from the Kalos region to appear more frequently than normal in the wild.

12 Days of Friendship Event

While the Go Beyond update won’t be released until the end of November, Niantic is already celebrating its arrival with the 12 Days of Friendship event, which kicks off on November 18. As the name suggests, this event will focus on your in-game friendships, allowing you to open more Gifts each day, grow your in-game friendships faster, and more.

While the 12 Days of Friendship event will officially end on November 30, one major bonus from the event will actually last until December 31.

Specifically, from November 18 to December 31, you’ll earn two times the normal amount of experience points for catching Pokemon!
