Pokemon Go Community Day: Collect a Swampert That Knows Hydro Cannon This Weekend

Mudkip will appear more frequently in the wild for a limited time.

Grab some sunscreen and shades — Pokemon Go Community Day is almost here again! On July 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time, more Mudkip than normal will appear while playing, and this will most likely include the possibility of encountering its rare Shiny form.

You may notice this event time is different from previous months. Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, said this month’s Community Day event “will take place during the evening to make for a cooler experience.” The developer also said that “regularly scheduled Community Days” will return “in a few months.”

Mudkip is a Water-type Pokemon from Gen III of the Pokemon universe (seen in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, which launched on Game Boy Advance in 2003 in North America). Mudkip, along with Treecko and Torchic, is one of the starting Pokemon players could choose from in those games.

Mudkip has two evolutions: Marshtomp and Swampert. Players can evolve Mudkip into Marshtomp using 25 Mudkip Candy, and then evolve Marshtomp into Swampert using 100 Mudkip Candy. If players evolve Marshtomp into Swampert during this Community Day event, it will learn the exclusive battle move Hydro Cannon.

For July’s Community Day event, Lure Modules will last for three hours when activated during the event window, rather than the standard 30 minutes. Players will also earn three times the normal amount of experience points when capturing Pokemon during this event. If you combine this particular bonus with a Lucky Egg (which doubles the amount of experience points you earn for 30 minutes), you can earn a ton of experience points in a really short amount of time.

Finally, while we don’t know which Pokemon will be featured in August’s Community Day event, we do know it’s coming up really fast. It will take place on August 3.
