Pokemon Go August 2022: Zacian Raids, Zamazenta Raids, and More

As we head into a new month, there are lots of new events and updates to look forward to in Pokemon Go.

Here’s a look at some of the updates and events coming to Pokemon Go in August 2022.

Research Breakthrough Encounters

From August 1, 2022 at 1 p.m. PT until August 31, 2022 at 1 p.m. PT, players will receive an encounter with Galarian Stunfisk each time they achieve a Research Breakthrough. As a reminder, players will achieve a Research Breakthrough each time they complete at least one Field Research task on seven separate days (it doesn’t have to be seven days in a row).

Tier-5 Raids

Four Pokemon will appear in Tier-5 Raids in August. Here’s the schedule:

  • From July 31, 2022 at 10 a.m. local time until August 10, 2022 at 10 a.m. local time – Palkia (Palkia will have the chance to be Shiny)
  • From August 10 at 10 a.m. local time until August 18 at 10 a.m. local time – Genesect
  • From August 18 at 10 a.m. local time until August 31 at 10 a.m. local time – Zacian and Zamazenta

On the Pokemon Go website, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, said, “During this period, Genesect will have a different Drive than it had in its past Pokémon GO appearances. Stay tuned for more information!”

Mega Raids

Four Pokemon will appear in Mega Raids in August 2022. Here’s the breakdown:

  • From July 31, 2022 at 10 a.m. local time until August 10, 2022 at 10 a.m. local time – Mega Abomasnow
  • From August 10 at 10 a.m. local time until August 18 at 10 a.m. local time – An unannounced Pokemon
  • From August 18 at 10 a.m. local time until August 25 at 10 a.m. local time – Mega Slowbro
  • From August 25 at 10 a.m. local time until August 31 at 10 a.m. local time – Mega Ampharos

Weekly Raid Hour Events

A Raid Hour event will take place each Wednesday in August from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time. During each event, more Tier-5 Raids will appear at Gyms than normal. Here’s the schedule:

  • August 3 – Palkia (Palkia will have the chance to be Shiny)
  • August 10 – Genesect
  • August 17 – Genesect
  • August 24 – Zacian
  • August 31 – Zamazenta

Weekly Spotlight Hour Events

A Spotlight Hour event will take place each Tuesday in August from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time. Here are the Pokemon and in-game bonuses that will be featured during these events.

  • August 2 – Hisuian Voltorb will appear more frequently than normal in the wild and players will receive two times the normal amount of Stardust when catching Pokemon.
  • August 9 – Nidoran♀ will appear more frequently than normal in the wild and players will receive two times the normal number of experience points when catching Pokemon.
  • August 16 – Joltik will appear more frequently than normal in the wild and players will receive two times the normal number of Pokemon Candy when catching Pokemon
  • August 23 – Nidoran♂ will appear more frequently than normal in the wild and players will receive two times the normal number of Pokemon Candy when transferring Pokemon
  • August 30 – Pidove will appear more frequently than normal in the wild and players will receive two times the normal number of experience points when evolving Pokemon

Limited-Time Events

A few limited-time events will take place in August 2022. Here’s the schedule:

Bug Out Event – This event will run from August 10 to August 16. It will focus on Bug-type Pokemon.

Pokemon Go Community Day – The August 2022 Pokemon Go Community Day event will take place on August 13, 2022. It will feature Galarian Zigzagoon. You can learn more about this event in our previous coverage.

2022 Pokemon World Championships Event – This event will run from August 18 to August 23.

Pokemon Go Fest 2022: Finale Event – This event will take place on August 27.
