Tuesday, August 9th, 2022 7:23 am

Mark your calendars!

Update (08/09/2022): Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, announced a series of Ultra Unlock bonuses that will be active during this Community Day event. These bonuses will be active from 11 a.m. local time until 7 p.m. local time on August 13, 2022:

  • Players will receive two times the normal number of experience points when catching Pokemon.
  • Players will receive two times the normal number of Pokemon Candy when transferring Pokemon.
  • Players can perform up to two additional Special Trades during this event. This means players can make up to four Special Trades on August 13, 2022.
  • Trades performed during this time will require 75 percent less Stardust to perform.

Update (07/28/2022): As spotted by PokeMiners, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, changed one of the bonuses that will be active during the August 2022 Community Day event. Originally, Niantic said if players captured enough Pokemon from a “lured” PokeStop during the Community Day event, wild Galarian Linoone would appear near the lured PokeStop for a limited time.

Now, Niantic said if players capture enough Pokemon from a lured PokeStop during the Community Day event, players will earn four times the normal amount of Stardust when catching Pokemon near the lured PokeStop for 30 minutes. On the Pokemon Go website, Niantic said, “This bonus will not stack with the base 3x Catch Stardust bonus and will instead replace it for the duration.”

Original Story:

As spotted by PokeMiners, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, revealed details about the August 2022 Pokemon Go Community Day event.

The August 2022 Pokemon Go Community Day event will take place on August 13, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.

During this event, Galarian Zigzagoon will appear more frequently than normal in the wild, and players will have the chance to encounter Shiny Galarian Zigzagoon.

Galarian Zigzagoon is a Dark- and Normal-type Pokemon that was introduced in the eighth generation of the Pokemon universe. In Pokemon Go, players can evolve Galarian Zigzagoon into Galarian Linoone using 25 Zigzagoon Candy, and then evolve Galarian Linoone into Obstagoon using 100 Zigzagoon Candy.

Each time players evolve Galarian Linoone into Obstagoon during this event or during the five hours immediately following it, Obstagoon will learn the move Obstruct.

A variety of in-game bonuses will be active in Pokemon Go during this Community Day event:

  • Players will receive three times the normal amount of Stardust when catching Pokemon.
  • Players will receive two times the normal number of Pokemon Candy when catching Pokemon.
  • There will be twice the normal chance for players who have reached Level 31 or higher to receive XL Candy when catching Pokemon.
  • Lure Modules will remain active for three hours when activated during this event.
  • Incense will remain active for three hours when activated during this event.
  • Players will be able to take Snapshots to earn extra encounters with Galarian Zigzagoon.
  • Players will be able to perform one extra Special Trade on August 13, 2022.
  • Pokemon trades that are conducted during the Community Day event or during the five hours immediately following it will require 50 percent less Stardust to conduct.

On the Pokemon Go website, Niantic detailed one final bonus that will be available during this event:

“If enough Pokémon are caught by Trainers with help from a single Lure Module, wild Galarian Linoone will appear near the Lured PokéStop!”

Players will be able to complete a series of Timed Research tasks during this Pokemon Go Community Day event. The Timed Research will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time on August 13, 2022. Players will be required to catch 100 Galarian Zigzagoon to complete this Timed Research. If players complete the Timed Research before time runs out, they’ll receive an Obstagoon Hat, Obstagoon Glasses, Obstagoon Gloves, and an Obstagoon Pose for their in-game avatar. If players don’t earn these items by completing this Timed Research, Niantic said these items will be available to purchase in the in-game shop after the event ends.

In addition, players will be able to collect event-themed stickers by opening Gifts, spinning the Photo Disc at PokeStops, and purchasing them in the in-game store.

Elsewhere, players will have the option to spend $1 on a ticket that will give them access to a Special Research storyline on Community Day called “Field Notes: Galarian Zigzagoon.” Players will be able to purchase one of these tickets for themselves, and they’ll also have the option to purchase this ticket for their in-game friends.

Finally, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time on August 13, 2022, players will be able to battle against Galarian Linoone in Tier-4 Raids. When players defeat Galarian Linoone in one of these Raids, Galarian Zigzagoon will appear around the Gym where the Raid took place for 30 minutes. The Galarian Zigzagoon that appear during this time will have the same chance to be Shiny as the Galarian Zigzagoon that will appear from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time on August 13.

Niantic said players won’t be able to participate in these Raids using Remote Raid Passes. Players will only be able to participate in these Raids using Raid Passes and Premium Battle Passes.
