Celebrate the New Year by capturing lots of costumed Pokemon!

Pokemon Go is preparing to welcome 2022 with a New Year event that will allow players to encounter lots of costumed Pokemon.

The 2022 New Year’s event will run from December 31, 2021 at 10 p.m. local time until January 4, 2022 at 8 p.m. local time.

During this event, players will earn two times the normal amount of Stardust and Pokemon Candy when hatching Pokemon. Plus, Eggs will hatch after walking half of the normal required distance if they’re placed into Incubators during this time.

During the 2022 New Year’s event, New Year’s Hat Pikachu, Seel, 2020 Glasses Slowpoke, New Year’s Hat Hoothoot, Stantler, Party Hat Wurmple, and Loudred will be available to encounter in the wild. Fearow will also be available to encounter in the wild, though the Pokemon Go website indicated it will be rarer than the other Pokemon featured during this event.

In addition, once this event begins, Shiny Hoothoot will be released in Pokemon Go. During the New Year’s event, it will be possible for players to encounter Shiny New Year’s Hat Hoothoot. Once this event ends, it will be possible for players to encounter Shiny Hoothoot without a costume.

Next, a variety of Pokemon will appear in Raids during this event:

  • Tier-3 Raids – Party Hat Raticate, Party Hat Nidorino, Machamp, Party Hat Gengar, and 2022 Glasses Slowking
  • Tier-5 Raids – Kyurem
  • Mega Raids – Mega Abomasnow

Players will be able to collect and complete event-themed Field Research tasks during this event that will reward them with encounters with 2020 Glasses Slowpoke and New Year Hat Hoothoot. Players may also be able to encounter Party Hat Bulbasaur, Party Hat Charmander, and Party Hat Squirtle by completing event-themed Field Research tasks, but the Pokemon Go website indicated these encounters will be rarer than encounters with 2020 Glasses Slowpoke and New Year Hat Hoothoot.

Elsewhere, players will have the chance to receive the following Pokemon from 7 km Eggs that are collected during this event:

  • Party Hat Bulbasaur
  • Party Hat Charmander
  • Party Hat Squirtle

  • New Year’s Shoes

Plus, players will be able to collect New Year’s-themed stickers by spinning the Photo Disc at PokeStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them in the shop.

This event will also allow players to complete Timed Research tasks to encounter costumed Pokemon.

Finally, as part of the game’s New Year’s festivities, fireworks will appear in Pokemon Go from December 31 at 11 p.m. local time until January 2 at 12 a.m. local time.
