Original Story:

The 2022 Bug Out event is coming soon to Pokemon Go!

The Bug Out event will run from August 10, 2022 at 10 a.m. local time until August 16, 2022 at 8 p.m. local time.

Once this event begins, Grubbin, Charjabug, and Vikavolt will become available to collect in Pokemon Go. Players will be able to evolve Grubbin into Charjabug using 25 Grubbin Candy. Players will be able to evolve Charjabug into Vikavolt using 100 Grubbin Candy when they’re near a PokeStop with an active Magnetic Lure Module.

During the Bug Out event, Caterpie, Weedle, Ledyba, Spinarak, Yanma, Wurmple, Surskit, Kricketot, Venipede, Karrablast, Joltik, Shelmet, Grubbin, and Dewpider will appear more frequently than normal in the wild. Pineco, Skorupi, and Dwebble will also have the chance to appear in the wild during this event, but the Pokemon Go website indicated they’ll be rarer than the other featured Pokemon.

A variety of Pokemon will appear in Raids during this event:

  • Tier-1 Raids – Paras, Pineco, and Joltik
  • Tier-3 Raids – Venomoth, Pinsir, Forretress, and Shuckle
  • Tier-5 Raids – Chill Drive Genesect
  • Mega Raids – Mega Scizor

Players will be able to complete event-themed Field Research tasks during this event to earn encounters with Caterpie, Weedle, Paras, Venonat, Ledyba, Spinarak, Yanma, Silcoon, Cascoon, Nincada, Volbeat, Ilumise, Kricketot, Plant Cloak Burmy, Sand Cloak Burmy, Trash Cloak Burmy, Combee, Sewaddle, Venpiede, Dwebble, Karrablast, Shelmet, Grubbin, Dewpider, and Wimpod.

In addition, players will be able to complete a Collection Challenge during this event to receive 15,000 experience points and the Bug Catcher Pose for their in-game avatar. On the Pokemon Go website, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, said the Bug Catcher Pose will be available to purchase in the in-game shop after the Bug Out event ends.

Next, Niantic said players will be able to “have a surprise encounter with a Bug-type Pokémon” when they take a Snapshot during this event. In addition, Niantic said players will receive “2× XP for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws” during this event.

Finally, on the Pokemon Go website, Niantic detailed one more bonus that will be available during this event:

“Work together with other Trainers to unlock additional bonuses! If three or more Trainers join an in-person Raid Battle, even more of a certain wild Bug-type Pokémon will appear for 15 minutes in a 300-meter radius around the Gym that hosted the raid! The Pokémon that will appear in greater numbers change each day.”

Here’s the Pokemon that will be featured each day:

  • August 10 – Wurmple
  • August 11 – Caterpie
  • August 12 – Spinarak
  • August 13 – Venpiede
  • August 14 – Kricketot
  • August 15 – Weedle
  • August 16 – Ledyba

It’s possible more features will be added to this Bug Out event before it begins. Specifically, players will have the chance to unlock Ultra Unlock bonuses that will apply to the Bug Out event during the Pokemon Go Fest: Sapporo event that will take place from August 5-7, 2022. If the Pokemon Go community completes the Global Challenge that will be available in Pokemon Go during the Pokemon Go Fest: Sapporo event, they’ll unlock Ultra Unlock bonuses that will apply to the Bug Out event.
