Watch out for Shiny Snivy!

In February 2021, the  Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event will take place in Pokemon Go. As the name suggests, this event will focus on pocket monsters discovered in the Kanto region of the Pokemon universe. Ahead of this major event, Pokemon Go will be updated with a series of limited time events that will each celebrate a different region of the Pokemon world, such as Sinnoh and Hoenn.

To kick things off, The Unova Celebration event will run from January 5 at 10 a.m. local time until January 10 at 8 p.m. local time.

During this event, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Lillipup, Herdier, Blitzle, Roggenrola, Drilbur, Scraggy, Tympole, Venipede, Trubbish, Gothita, Solosis, and Ferroseed will appear more frequently than normal in the wild, and Shiny Snivy will also be available to encounter.

Next, Roggenrola, Sweaddle, Petilil, Emolga, Karrablast, Joltik, Elgyem, and Shemlet will have the chance to hatch from 5 km Eggs that are collected during this event. You’ll also be able to complete event-specific Field Research tasks during this time to receive rewards like Stardust and encounters with pocket monsters like Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, and Ferroseed.

In a news post, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, revealed the Pokemon that will appear in Raids during the Unova Celebration:

  • Tier 1 Raids – Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Timburr, Dwebble, and Klink
  • Tier 3 Raids – Herdier, Tranquill, Excadrill, and Amoonguss
  • Tier 5 Raids – Genesect holding a Burn Drive
  • Mega Raids – Mega Charizard Y, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Abomasnow

From January 5 at 10 a.m. local time until January 12 at 10 a.m. local time, Mega Charizard Y will be more powerful than normal.

Plus, this event will be the first time this particular form of Genesect will be available to encounter in Pokemon Go. The Shiny version of this Genesect will not be available.

The next region-themed event in Pokemon Go will focus on the Sinnoh region. The Sinnoh Celebration event will run from January 12 until January 17. We’ll bring you more details about this event as they’re revealed.
