PS4 owners will soon be able to play Minecraft with friends on other platforms.

The Bedrock version of Minecraft is finally coming to PlayStation 4 on December 10, 2019!

Minecraft’s “Bedrock” version is the standard version of the game that’s available on Xbox One, Switch, PC, and mobile devices. Once PlayStation 4 owners update to the Bedrock version, they’ll be able to play with their friends on those different consoles, as well as access the Minecraft Marketplace, which is full of optional add-ons like character skins and mini-games (the Marketplace includes premium content).

Plus, going forward, PlayStation 4 owners will receive the same new content and updates as everyone else, regardless of the platform they play Minecraft on.

The Bedrock update will be free for everyone who already owns Minecraft on PS4. If you own the game on multiple platforms, any of your purchases and progress will be available across those different platforms, so long as you sign into your Microsoft account.

If you don’t own Minecraft on PlayStation 4, the Bedrock version will be the only one available to buy once this update launches.

In a statement, Helen Chiang, studio head of Minecraft, commented on this release:

“One of Minecraft’s core missions is to connect players across devices and provide the best experience regardless of platform. We continue to fulfill that mission here today by welcoming PS4 players to Minecraft on Bedrock and growing our cross-platform multiplayer community.”
