A Relay Race Mode was also added to the game.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit was released on Switch in the fall of 2020. The game allows players to drive real-world karts featuring Luigi and Mario around race tracks they create in their own home, and watch the action play out on the Switch’s screen.
When Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit was first released, the game allowed players to compete in up-to four player multiplayer races so long as each person had their own Switch system and their own Mario or Luigi kart.
However, the game has now been updated to Version 2.0, which allows two players to race together on the same Switch system in the game’s “Split-Screen Mode.”
Specifically, the Split-Screen Mode will allow families to connect two Karts to a single Switch system. The screen will be split in half vertically, allowing each player to watch the action on their own side of the screen.
In addition to adding this new Split-Screen Mode, Version 2.0 of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit also added a “Relay Race Mode” to the game, which will allow up to four people to play the game using a single Mario or Luigi Kart and a single Switch system.
Relay Races last for eight laps, and they’ll allow players to take turns driving the same Kart.
Finally, this update added a new Cup to the game called the Luigi Cup. The Cup includes three courses: Windmill Meadows, Music Broadway, and King Boo’s Courtyard. If players finish in a high enough position across these three courses, they’ll unlock the “Luigi’s Poltergust” customization for their kart.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is typically priced at $99.99, but it will be discounted to $59.99 beginning November 21, 2021 as part of Nintendo’s Black Friday sale. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.
