Fortnite’s New Tournaments Let Players Compete for Prizes and Bragging Rights

Test your skills in free competitions that are open to everyone.

A huge update just launched in Fortnite: Battle Royale, introducing a tournament system that will let players across all systems (PC, consoles, and mobile devices) compete against one another for a chance to earn in-game prizes and the admiration of their peers.

Tournaments can be found inside the game’s new “Events” tab. Each tournament will contain multiple competitive “sessions” that will take place over a period of days or weeks. Players can view upcoming sessions ahead of time so they can make sure their calendar is clear.

During each session, players will earn points by eliminating enemies and surviving in each match. As players complete matches during the same session, they will be matched up against users with a similar number of points going forward. That means players who are doing well throughout a session will face stiffer competition as the session goes on. At the same time, players who may not have had as much time as other players (and haven’t built up their skills yet) won’t have to worry about facing users at a higher level than them.

If players earn a required number of points during a session, they’ll earn an in-game pin as a reward. In a blog post, Fortnite‘s developer, Epic, said “In the future, earning a pin may advance you to the next round of a tournament or qualify you to win prizes.”

Each session will wipe the points back to zero, allowing every player to start fresh at the same level. If your teen has a bad run in one session, they’ll have the same chance for glory as everyone else when the next session begins.

So far, five tournaments have been announced. The first is the Alpha Tournament, which starts October 16 and ends October 21. This is a Solo tournament, meaning each game is “every man for himself.” Some of the other tournaments (at least the ones we know about) will use the Duo or Squad setup, allowing players to work together to survive.

If you or your kids aren’t into the idea of such heavy competition, this update still has something fun to enjoy. A new Quadcrasher vehicle has been introduced in Fortnite: Battle Royale. The vehicle can hold two players, and it can be used to smash through buildings and even launch other players into the air by ramming into them. Just imagine how much fun you can have with this new toy.
