Animal Crossing New Horizons Will Let You Move From a Tent Into a Home

Give your new life a firm foundation with an upgradable, customizable home!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will take players to a deserted island, where they’ll be able to create a new life for themselves starting with nothing but a small tent and a few basic supplies.

In a recent video presentation (embedded below), Nintendo showed us that we won’t be stuck in our tents forever. We’ll actually be able to build a regular home on the island, which can be customized and expanded in a similar fashion to our homes in previous Animal Crossing games.

Specifically, players will be able to take out a home loan with Tom Nook, which they can pay off at their own pace (with no interest). The house starts with a single room, but you can expand this room to be larger, and even add on more rooms over time.

The house will also come with its own storage spaces, so you can store extra items that you don’t want to carry around or display out in the open.

As with previous Animal Crossing games, once you build a house, you’ll be able to decorate the interior any way you’d like by installing new wall and flooring options and arranging the furniture. You’ll even be able to hang items, like wreaths, on the walls.

Once you’re satisfied, you can view your home from multiple angles to take just the right picture.

While roughing it in a tent is a fun idea, we’re thrilled we’ll be able to put down sturdier roots in our own home when Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches on Switch on March 20.
