You'll be able to fly to a special island during this limited time event.
In May 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be updated with a May Day Tour event that will allow players to fly from their airport to a special island for a one-time trip.
The May Day Tour event will last from May 1 to May 7. During that time, you’ll receive a May Day Ticket that you can take to the airport, which will allow you to travel to a special island, similarly to how you use Nook Miles Tickets to go on mystery island tours.
In a recent trailer showing off the game’s upcoming events (embedded below), we can see that this island appears to contain a hedge maze full of items for you to collect and interact with. In a press release, Nintendo said players may also run into “[a] special visitor who looks familiar” when they visit this island.
Observant Twitter users have spotted a cat on the island in the trailer that appears to be Rover, so it’s likely this is the visitor Nintendo is referring to.
Rover is a familiar face in the Animal Crossing franchise. In previous games, he would help players create their character as they first began playing. We’ll just have to wait until the May Day Tour event begins to see what Rover is doing out here on this special island in New Horizons.
