Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Get Bushes (Shrubs)

Thursday, April 23rd, 2020 10:04 am

Decorate your island with lots of flowering plants!

The latest update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons added a variety of bushes, or shrubs, that players can use to decorate their island.

However, these shrubs aren’t the easiest items to come by. You can’t purchase them from Nook’s Cranny, and they’re also not available in the Nook Shopping catalog on the Nook Stop terminal. Instead, you’ll need to purchase shrubs from Leif, one of the game’s newest traveling merchants.

Leif may randomly set up his shop in your plaza, and once he’s there, he’ll stay for an entire day. However, you won’t know Leif is coming ahead of time.

When you talk to Leif, you’ll be able to purchase three or four different types of “shrub starts,” as well as a variety of flower seeds. Shrubs are available to purchase for 280 Bells each, or in bundles of five for 1,400 Bells.

Each shrub takes up the same amount of space as a flower. And similar to flowers, they don’t come fully grown. Instead, a shrub “start” looks like a tiny sapling when it’s planted, and it will grow into a full bush over a few days (check out the screenshot below to see what a new shrub looks like).

Finally, keep in mind that New Horizons now includes more types of shrubs than Leif will carry at one time. This means you’ll need to wait for Leif to visit your island multiple times — or talk to Leif when he visits a friend’s island — if you want to collect each and every kind of shrub available in the game.

Here are all of the shrubs we’ve seen so far. We’ll update this list as we find more!

  • Pink-azalea start
  • White-azalea start
  • Red-camellia start

  • Blue-hydrangea start
