Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Catch a Monarch Butterfly

Monday, August 24th, 2020 9:38 am

Everything you need to know about this lovely insect.

There are more than 10 different kinds of butterflies available to catch and donate in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. One of these insects is the monarch butterfly, and it’s about to start appearing on islands in the Northern Hemisphere.

Specifically, monarch butterflies will appear on islands in the Northern Hemisphere from September to November. According to AllGamers, they’ll appear on islands in the Southern Hemisphere from March to May. Monarch butterflies can appear at any time between 4 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Monarch butterflies have a bright orange and brown pattern that makes them stand out from the game’s other butterflies (including the tiger butterfly, since it’s yellow). Check out our short gameplay clip below to see what a monarch butterfly will look like when it’s flying around your island.

Monarch butterflies can be sold for 140 Bells each at Nook’s Cranny, or for a few more Bells if you sell them to Flick when he visits your island. Remember that you’ll also need to donate one of these insects to Blathers at the museum if you want to finish your insect collection.

Even though monarch butterflies are fairly common, it will still take you quite some time to track down one of every insect in New Horizons. That being the case, you may want to check out the ChargePlay Clutch from HyperX. It can extend your device’s battery life so you can play New Horizons (and other Switch games) for a longer period of time before having to charge your Switch. Head over to HyperX’s website to learn more about the ChargePlay Clutch and the company’s other Switch accessories.
