You may be able to hear this bug before you see it.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are lots of different bugs that will only appear on the sides of trees. One of these is the brown cicada, and it’s now appearing on islands in the Northern Hemisphere.

Specifically, players with islands in the Northern Hemisphere can catch the brown cicada from July to August. According to All Gamers, players with islands in the Southern Hemisphere can catch this insect from January to February. The brown cicada can appear on trees at any time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The brown cicada makes noise, so you may be able to hear one nearby before you actually see it. Check out our short gameplay clip below to see what a brown cicada looks (and sounds) like when it’s on the side of a tree.

Brown cicadas can be sold at Nook’s Cranny for 250 Bells each, or you can earn a few more Bells if you sell them to Flick when he visits your island. Also remember that you’ll need to donate one of these bugs to Blathers to complete your museum collection!
